And that’s just the tip of the iceberg! Imagine that Bob Newhart show about the inn in Vermont with all the interesting characters, except add about a zillion more interesting characters and no boring Bob Newhart!
I am so involved in the characters here. I only starting watching the show after its run on TV (thank you, Netflix), which has its good and its bad. The good is that I never have to worry about season-ending cliffhangers since the next disc is likely on its way in the mail (except when our mailman apparently decides to just not show up, like this past weekend – the nerve!). The bad is that since it’s been on for 7 years I’ve already inadvertently happened upon some spoilers before even realizing I would ever be interested in the show. Like, I already knew Dean would spontaneously decide to get married. I knew he and Rory would sleep together while he was married, though I didn’t know it would be her first time.
But so many of the subtleties of the relationships have surprised me and drew me in. When Rory kept her conversations with Jess from her mom, I knew there was trouble. I knew we were risking Rory going down the same troubled path as her mom who ended up pregnant at 16. When Rory left school and stopped talking to Lorelai, I was so upset I wanted to shake both of them. How could they let so much time pass? I know they’ll reconcile at some point, but how could they just cut each other out like this?! And I do not like that Logan kid and how Rory acts since they’ve been together. I’m pretty sure they end up together since I think I saw him on the cover of the 7th season dvd set. And! What’s going to happen with Luke and Lorelai? Will they really set a date? Will Christopher, Rory’s dad, ever really be out of Lorelai’s life and heart? Most importantly, will Richard and Emily ever, EVER accept Lorelai and Rory for who they are and stop being disappointed?
I’m about halfway through the sixth season, and the 7th season hasn’t even been released yet. I may have to up my Zoloft dosage in the meantime. I’m dying to know how it ends up. But not so bad that I’m going to look up spoilers online yet.
Yet.
